Zoo Miami is once again open, after a more than two-month closure.
The popular South Florida attraction is taking extra precautions – having all employees wear face coverings and implementing one-way pathways where necessary. Visitors must also wear face masks. Additionally, hand-sanitizing stations have been placed throughout the zoo.

In order to keep crowds to a manageable size, zoo members and Summer Savings passholders must make reservations online, and nonmembers must purchase tickets online. NOTE: Groups of more than 10 people are not allowed.
Here’s a refresher of what you can see at the zoo:
- Florida Mission: Everglades – Featuring almost 60 species of animals found in the Everglades, such as roseate spoonbills, alligators, crocodiles and turtles.
- Amazon & Beyond – Central and South America come alive in the 27-acre exhibit where you can see more than 100 species found in those regions. Jaguars, anacondas, eagles and river otters await!
Aside from visiting these exhibit areas, you can stroll through the grounds and see colorful amphibians, giraffes (even though you can’t feed them), tigers and lions lounging in their open-air habitat, several varieties of monkeys swinging from trees, hippos and otters keeping cool in the water, elephants roaming and all kinds of snakes and other colorful reptiles.
It’s a lot to see and – although the monorail is closed – safari cycles are still available for rent and are a good option if you’d like to cover the grounds thoroughly. You can bring a water bottle from home and refill it at stations throughout the zoo.

Deering invites you to enjoy an ‘Evening by the Bay’

The historic Miami site is presenting an outdoors, after-hours experience along Biscayne Bay from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28 and Dec. 23. Cost: Just $10 a person.
You can peruse the outdoor art installations, part of the Deering Spring Contemporary Projects, and enjoy a drink while having a picnic under the stars.
