Cheap winter break camps in Miami for 2020

Miami-Dade County Parks are a great deal year-round for enjoying our fantastic “winter” weather, and they’re an even better option for inexpensive Winter Break camps. 

During the two-week break, parks in all corners of the county offering camps that include fitness, arts and crafts, sports and several field trips for students age 6-14.

Camps run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 21-24 and Dec. 28-31. There’s no camp on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and half-days are available on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Early drop-off is available beginning at 7:30 am and late pick up until 6 p.m.

Cost ranges from $40 to $90 per week, depending on the program.

OTHER WINTER BREAK OPTIONS

Frost Science Winter Break Camp (in-person camp is sold out, but there is a waitlist)

Campers can enjoy amazing experiments, discoveries and investigations during the museum’s two-week-long camp sessions from December 20-24 and Dec. 28-31. In-person (waitlist only available) is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. $280 a week for members and $320 a week for non-members. Virtual is 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., $152 a week for members and $180 a week for non-members. MOCA Virtual Winter Workshops

Young artists 6-13 years old can participate in creative and interactive art workshops including painting, beadwork, mold-making, bookmaking, prints and Japanese Kawaii creatures. Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 28-31 from 10 a.m. to noon for kids 6-9 years old and 1-3 p.m. for kids 10-13 years old. Coral Gables Museum Winter Camp

Campers will love celebrating end-of-year holidays from around the world, making crafts and playing games. December 28-30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parents may register their children for just one day or all three. Members $90 a day or $210 for all three days; Non-members $115 a day or $285 for all three days. Sibling rate available. Discovery Lab Camp at Pinecrest Gardens

Kids ages 4-8 years old become junior scientists during this discovery camp exploring the gardens, creating art and making snow and gingerbread houses. Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 28-30 from 9 a.m. to noon. $170 per week. Spaces are limited and mask wearing will be required. Click here to register. 

City of Hialeah Winter Camp

City of Hialeah’s Educations and Community Services Department’s Winter Camp will include arts & crafts, indoor and outdoor activities and a weekly field trip. Campers should bring lunch and a snack every day. Camp runs Dec 21-23 and Dec. 28-30, call 305-818-9143. $45 a week for residents, $65 for non-residents. Click here for the website.

 

City of Miami Parks has not released a Winter Break Camp schedule yet for 2020.

City of Miami Parks & Recreation Department also hosts an affordable winter break camp at 28 parks around the city. Kids ages 6-13 can play, learn and stay active with all types of activities from sports to field trips. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with early drop off as early as 8 a.m. Camp dates are Dec. 21-24 and Dec. 28-31. No camp on Christmas or New Years Days. There is a $10 mandatory registration fee and camp is $48 per week for residents and $56 per week for non-residents. There is also a fee reduction program available. Camp Unbeatables Winter Camp (no dates announced for 2020)

Winter Camp at Doral Legacy Park, 11400 NW 82th St., in Doral, FL for children 5 to 14 years old. Daily, weekly or bi-weekly rates. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 23, 26, 27 and 30 and January 2 and 3. $40 per day for Doral residents and $48 per day for non-residents. 786-502-3376. Click here for the website.

Miami Children’s Museum Winter Camp (no camp for 2020)

Winter Camp will include art, music, and drama based activities like costume and prop design, improv exercises, theatrical games, script reading, song and movement activities and so much more! The two weeks will culminate in a stage production and performance by the campers, which will take place on the final day of camp for friends and families to attend! Camp runs Dec 23-24 and 26-27 and Dec. 30-31 and Jan. 2-3, email or call 305-373-5437 ext. 112 to register. $165 a week for members, $185 a week for non-members. Click here for the website.

Jr. HEAT Winter Camp (no dates announced for 2020/2021)

Jan. 2-4 from 9 am-3:30 pm at S.L.A.M. High School, 542 NW 12 Ave., Miami

Cost: One week session $250

Details: HEAT Camps are for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 16. Campers will be grouped according to their age and ability. Lunch will be provided daily and campers will receive giveaways daily.
