Zoo Miami’s Party for the Planet Earth Day will be Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Zoo Miami. Admission is free with the donation of a used cell phone.
Green activities include the animal enrichment with recycled items and natural materials including newspapers, cardboard tubes, bamboo, old tires and fire hoses.
The used cell phones are being collected as part of an effort to help save gorillas from the harmful effects of coltan, which is included in cell phones and is a lucrative mining business in the Congo in Africa and causing the reduction of animal habitat.
