Bakers and chefs selling directly to the public

We’re all cooking our own meals at home more than ever these days, so every once in a while we’re looking to enjoy someone else’s home cooking. Turns out several local bakers and chefs are answering that call, selling their home-cooked goodness to the public.

Craving a warm, homemade soup? Then try @whatsoupmiami where two former restaurant industry employees are now making three soups a week for delivery on Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The menu includes rotating flavors like creamy sweet potato, spicy lentil, tomato basil and carrot ginger. They delivery mainly around Midtown Miami and nearby but expand their delivery route as necessary. Check their Instagram on Wednesdays for that week’s offerings and order by Friday.

Delicate dumplings and other Chinese favorites are being cranked out by Chef Pablo Zitzmann, formerly with No Name Chinese in South Miami. You’ll have to plan ahead because he’s taking orders three weeks in advance through his Instagram page. Pickup is in the downtown Dadeland area and, once ordered, he’ll contact you with the details.

Tasty baked goods and other to-go specialty items are available from the Chefs from Mandolin Agean Bistro and owners of B Bistro + Bakery. Buy chocolate and praline pecan babkas ($20 each) and Filipino-style spring rolls (30 for $20) from Roel Acudia and Jessica Hernandez of Mandolin here, and buy a variety of baked goods as well as to-go items like gazpacho, hummus and more from EarlyBird Bakeshop via Instagram or call them at 305-281-8182.

Another place to grab tacos, because we know there are plenty, is 305 Tacos. They’re offering a daily revolving menu with three tacos and a drink at $11 and $12 or $8 to $9 for multiple tacos without a drink. Choose from pulled flank steak, fried rolled chicken taquitos, vegetarian tacos and others. Side of chips with guacamole and pico de gallo is $1 and there are dessert options too. Order for delivery via their Instagram page.

Vegans, you can choose The Spanglish Vegan selling plant-based Latin cuisine including empanadas, rice and beans of all kinds, vegan picadillo (alternative ground beef) and ropa vieja (vegan shredded beef) along with other desserts and sides. Call 305-721-7575 or e-mail thespanglishvegan305@gmail.com to order. If you’re craving a burger, turn to Plant B Burger for a vegan burger kit including the patty, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomato and pretzel buns for $10. Order on Instagram.
