Free trolley service in South Beach

Alton West Trolley Sample DesignImagine a night on South Beach not driving around aimlessly looking for a parking spot. Well…that day is here with the launch of the free Alton Road/West Loop Trolley Service.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony and inaugural ride is set for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Fifth Street and Lenox Avenue bus stop, north side.

The trolley service is accessible from several parking facilities. The public is encouraged to park at the garage on Fifth Street and Alton Road, where parking will be free for up to four hours with the use of the trolley voucher. Also, a pilot valet parking service will be available on 11th Street between Alton Road and West Avenue at $5 for up to three hours and $8 for up to six hours.

The trolley service was also launched in an effort to improve access to the businesses along Alton Road and West Avenue during the Florida Department of Transportation construction through the end of 2015. The trolley will operate until construction is finished.

The Alton/West Loop trolleys will travel from Fifth Street to Lincoln Road, along Alton Road and West Avenue, with 20 stops along the way. The free service will run approximately every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Sunday. The trolley has a capacity of 25 passengers and has an external bike rack and free WiFi.
