With a focus on protecting oceans and sea turtles, an educational venue in South Florida features interactive displays and a resident rescued sea turtle.
Entry is free for Marine Environmental Education Center, often called MEEC. A donation of $3 is recommended. The facility is run through a partnership of Broward Parks and Recreation and Nova Southeastern University.
The venue is usually open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays at Hollywood North Beach Park, 4414 N. Surf Road, Hollywood 33019
Recommendation: stay until 3:30 p.m., when you’re treated to a program during which staff feeds the female sea turtle. The turtle is not releasable into the ocean due to injuries from an accident with a boat.
