Free activities & more for Hispanic Heritage Month

It’s Hispanic Heritage Month – and we’ve got some activities rounded up so you can mark the occasion.

The monthlong celebration honors the rich and diverse Hispanic culture.  

Whether you’re out and about, or are still staying at home, there are several ways you can participate. 

We may add more activities as we find them, so be sure to check back often!

Miami-Dade College events

Miami Dade College is offering several events. All are free, but at least one is virtual only.

  • Oct. 8 – Se Habla Funny Improv Show by The Society Circus Players. A Latin American-based theme will be performed by a group who don’t speak Spanish. 8-9:30 p.m., West Campus, 3800 NW 115th Ave., Doral. Free.
  • Oct. 15 – La Ola Marina, a series of dance films that explore themes of Hispanic culture. Choreographers focus on movement, music and meaningful locations. Presented by the New World School of the Arts. 7 p.m., livestreamed event. Free.
  • Oct. 19 – Contemporary Latinx Literature: Readings from Contemporary Writers, a student reading of literary works by Latinx writers. 6:30 p.m., Padron Campus, 627 SW 27th Ave., Miami. Free.

Publix free recipes

Your neighborhood Publix is also in on the Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.

The Lakeland-based supermarket chain is offering you free traditional recipes, so you can mark the occasion with a good meal at home. The recipes offer different flavors found across the Caribbean and the Americas.

Miami Beach Salsa Fest

This free multicultural concert, presented by The Rhythm Foundation, will take place at the North Beach Bandshell but be broadcast virtually. The annual salsa extravaganza will feature Melina Almodovar, “La Muñeca de la Salsa.” Click here for more information.

Celebrate ORGULLO Festival

This Hispanic LGBTQ Pride festival, which enters its 10th year, offers in-person and virtual events through Oct. 15. Celebrate ORGULLO will also have an International Artists Showcase, ART|DIVA Bus Tours, music, writer salons and more.
