If you were looking forward to the next Chili Cook-off at Pinecrest Gardens, we have some disappointing news for you: This year’s edition of the popular annual event has been canceled.

The official site for this event, which is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, has this announcement:

“Due to Covid-19 concerns, we will not have our Chili Cook-Off this season, but we will be back with more fun and chili than ever in Season 2021-2022!”

The event typically features a primary competition for professional chili cooks and a separate contest for amateur chili cooks. There also are country music bands, line dancing, mechanical bull riding, plus a selection of food, chili sampling and more.

In the past, tickets cost $5 for general admission, and admission was free for Pinecrest Gardens members and children younger than age 2. All proceeds have benefited the Community Foundation of Pinecrest, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Pinecrest Gardens, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in October 2011.
