Comcast is expanding its low-cost Internet program, which currently serves low-income families and those in public housing, to low-income senior citizens and community college students. It’s called the Internet Essentials program and it provides basic Internet service for $9.95 a month.
As part of the seniors pilot program, seniors can access affordable Internet service, get a free computer and training classes. It’s being offered in Miami-Dade County, Boston, Detroit, Palm Beach County, Philadelphia, San Francisco County, San Jose and Seattle.
Who is eligible for the seniors program? You must live in one of the areas mentioned above, be 62 years or older, receive federal or state public assistance, not have subscribed to Comcast in the last 90 days and not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment. Elegible seniors also can purchase a computer for $149.99 plus tax.
