The free event, titled “Belonging: Reflections on Identity, Exile, and Home: A Conversation with Richard Blanco,” is being hosted by FIU’s Center for the Humanities in an Urban Environment, in collaboration with Emory University and other partners.

In addition to the Zoom presentation, the discussion will also be available on the Center for the Humanities in an Urban Environment’s Facebook page.

His discussion will focus on the universal human need that is belonging. Blanco says many in the LGBTQ+ community spend their lives asking: What does it mean to belong?

Blanco delivered his poem, “One Today,” at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2013. He is recognized as the first immigrant, first Latino, first openly gay poet and youngest person ever selected for this honor.
