Sandrell Rivers Theater has once again opened its doors – and with that, its regular programming featuring Fantasy Theatre Factory.
The nonprofit theater organization has been presenting programs for children since 1982. The colorful and fun productions include play readings, educational shows, and workshops for magic, slapstick, juggling, miming, clowning and improv comedy.

Fantasy Theatre Factory’s mission is to cultivate, foster, sponsor and develop appreciation, understanding, taste and love of theater arts among the general public, with a special emphasis on serving children.

February Black History Month programming:
“Soul by Soul” by Isabel Tucen (in-person and online)
Feb. 6 at 8 p.m.

A play about Harriet Tubman, one of the most famous “conductors” of the Underground Railroad, who guided 300 slaves to freedom in 19 harrowing trips. Playwright/director/composer and lyricist Tucen says, “Harriet has taught me to use my voice and advocate relentlessly for the things I believe in. She has taught me that, no matter how hopeless things may get, always have faith and serve with an open heart. In the state of the world we are living in, I challenge myself and others to be a Harriet. Is there a Harriet in you?”
Fantasy Theatre Factory developed the “ONE@SRT” series in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to continue to provide economic opportunities to artists and original programming for audiences. This performance will premiere at the Sandrell Rivers Theater while simulcasting on Facebook & YouTube.
“Sacred Fire” (in-person and online)

Presented by in conjunction with New Cannon Chamber Collective, the performance explores a range of Western classical music by composers of African descent by merging engaging visual elements and sound. It is a chronological musical journey from Afro-British to Afro-Brazilian music, narrated with poetic prose and accompanied with elements of movement (ballet) and visual art. The program will culminate in an audience talk-back with the artists and Fantasy Theatre Factory CEO/Executive Artistic Director Larry Fields. Produced by singer Portia Dunkley, directed by singer Angel Refuse, and featuring visual artist Marielle Plaisir; spoken-word artist Dachondra Cason; ballet dancer Emily Ricca; and musicians Chelsea Sharpe (violin), Victoria Joseph (violin), Vishnu Ramankutty (viola), and Kevin Phillip Jones (cello).
“Lift Every Voice – Black Women Speak” (in-person and online)

The show features the reading of 14 monologues that unleash the thoughts and experiences of Black Women playwrights from across the country. From an unwanted pregnancy to the fear of a traffic stop, the monologues give us a glimpse into the lives of these women. Produced by Marjorie O’Neill-Butler, directed by O’Neill-Butler, Ricky J. Martinez, Rachel Finley, and Karen Stephens, and featuring South Florida actors Carolyn Johnson, Stephon Duncan, Carey Brianna Hart, Daryl Patrice, and Yesenia Ozuna.
“I Wanna Dance with Somebody: A Celebration of Black Icons from the ’80s” (online only)
Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.

Program that will explore the iconic music created by African American artists in the 1980s. A plethora of icons released hit after hit that topped the charts across the US and around the world, including Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Billy Ocean, Anita Baker, Patti Labelle, and many more.
Be advised: All in-person shows and workshops will take place with social distancing and facial covering measures.
